{"id":4391,"date":"2019-02-10T00:45:10","date_gmt":"2019-02-09T22:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/top.cy\/?p=4391"},"modified":"2023-07-18T09:39:38","modified_gmt":"2023-07-18T07:39:38","slug":"gdpr-enforcement-in-cyprus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/khlawlab.com\/el\/gdpr-enforcement-in-cyprus\/","title":{"rendered":"GDPR Enforcement In Cyprus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was implemented in Cyprus as well as in all other EU members, as from 25\/5\/2018.<\/p>\n<p>According to information published by the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus, by 31\/12\/2018, the Commissioner\u2019s Office:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Had received 281 complaints, 103 of which concern spam.<\/li>\n<li>Had received 32 notifications of personal data breach, and<\/li>\n<li>Had issued 4 decisions, by which it imposed administrative fines of total amount of \u20ac11,500.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Commissioner acting within its competence, has imposed a fine of \u20ac10,000 to a newspaper which published the name and photo of police officers in relation to a claimed hardship and unnecessary and illegal arrest of a citizen. The Commissioner decided that the intended purpose could have been achieved by the mere reference to the initials of the names of the police officers and\/or the use of blurred photos and\/or photos taken from a long distance so that their identity could not be recognized, which would not have changed the nature of the case.
